CSK v SRH: Top 5 Performers of the Match!

Chennai Super Kings won their 5th consecutive match to top the points table. Earlier SRH captain David Warner won the toss and elect to bat on the pretext that they have never batted first in the tournament so far, though the wicket was conducive to teams chasing.

Captain Warner struggled during his uncharacteristic knock of 57 in 55 balls on a good batting wicket. He hit 2 sixes though – most sixes than any other batsman in the match. In the process David Warner became the first batsman to score 50 IPL half centuries. He also recorded his 200th IPL Six and reach his milestone 10,000 runs in T20 Cricket

SRH managed to put 171-3 in 20 overs – thanks to the end over slog by Kane Williamson and Kedar Jadhav.

CSK openers eased in to the chase putting on their 2nd 100 partnership of the tournament which helped Chennai chase down with 9 balls to spare.

Sunrisers brought back Manish Pandey after dropping him for 2 matches at Chennai. He looked in sublime touch as he put on a 106-run partnership with captain David Warner who was struggling to get going. He ended up top scoring for his team on his comeback.

Pandey scored 61 runs in 46 balls with the help of 5 fours and 1 six.

Kane Williamson – 26*(10)

Kane Williamson walked in to bat with just 23 balls remaining in the innings. The score was 128-2 in 17.1 overs at his entry.

Williamson kept the smooth run flow going with a 10 ball 26 not out. His cameo had 4 fours and 1 six. He was later joined by Kedar Jadhav (12* in 4 balls), with whom he put on a partnership of 37 runs in 13 balls to help SRH to 171/3 in 20 overs.

Faf du Plessis – 56 (38)

The CSK opener registered his 3rd consecutive IPL half century. He is now the current Orange Cap holder with 270 runs in 6 matches this season.

Chasing 172 to win, Faf du Plessis put on 129 run opening stand in 13 overs with Ruturaj Gaikwad. du Plessis scored 56 runs in 38 balls powered by 6 fours and 1 six before being trapped LBW by Rashid Khan. He reached his half century in 32 balls.

Earlier Faf took a stunning diving catch at the wide long on boundary to dismiss SRH top scorer Manish Pandey which earned him the Catch of the Match award.

Ruturaj Gaikwad – 75 (44)

Ruturaj Gaikwad found form after a first few rusty games. CSK put faith in this Maharashtra talent and he is now delivering for his team in winning cause.

Gaikwad scored 75 runs in 44 balls with the help of 12 fours. It is his highest IPL score till date. He started behind Faf du Plessis but once he reached his fifty in 35 balls, he upped the ante to score 23 more runs in the next 8 balls.

The 24 year old batsman was adjudged the Man of the Match award for his knock.

Rashid Khan – 3/36

CSK lost 3 wickets in the chase and all 3 wickets were picked by Rashid Khan himself. Rashid Khan was played out cautiously in his first 2 overs but Ruturaj Gaikwad took to him in his 3rd over where he hit him for 3 fours in the over.

Rashid Khan took his vengeance by bowling him out of the last ball of the over. In his next over Rashid got hit for 2 fours by Moeen Ali but the leg spinner made his comeback by removing Moeein Ali and Faf du Plessis in the last 2 balls of his spell.

Rashid Khan ended with match figures of 4-0-36-3 with the 3 wickets falling in the last 7 balls of his spell.
