Team India announce 15 member squad for the WTC Final

Team India announced their 15-member squad for the inaugural edition of World Test Championship final. The Test squad has the likes of Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav.

Mayank Agarwal who opened for India in Test cricket has been left out of the squad. Agarwal scored 857 runs in 20 innings at an average of 42.85 in the World Test Championship. He was the fourth top run getter for Team India in the tournament. Shardul Thakur also missed out on the cut after heroics down under.

Shubman Gill who had an impressive outing down under made it to the squad. KL Rahul who had a good outing in the intra-squad match also didn’t make the cut.

The squad has 2 wicket-keepers in the form of Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha.

The pace bowling attack comprises of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav. The spin department is taken care by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

The team has the experience of Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane in their ranks. Rishabh Pant will add the X-factor to the batting line up with Jadeja and Ashwin expected to provide the services with both the bat and ball.

R Ashwin is India’s leading wicket taker in the tournament with 67 wicket sin 13 matches and he needs 4 more wickets to be the top wicket taker of the tournament. Among pacers, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami picked 36 wickets each followed by Jasprit Bumrah with 34 wickets in 9 Tests.

New Zealand have already announced their squad of 15 being led by Kane Williamson who is expected to be fit for the final.

The inaugural World Test Championship final will take place from June 18 to 22 with June 23 as a reserve day at Hampshire Bowl in Southampton.
