WATCH: Keshav Maharaj’s hat-trick against West Indies.

Keshav Maharaj became just the second South African cricketer to achieve a Test hat-trick. The last time a South African bowler managed the feat was at Lord’s in 1960 when pacer Geoff Griffin achived it against England.

Maharaj’s hat-trick is the 46th hat-trick in Test cricket history.

Maharaj finished with bowling figures of 17.3-7-36-5 which helped his team to a 158 run win and also a 2-0 series win.

The home side was in the game at 107 for three when left-arm spinner Maharaj (5-36) claimed the scalp of Kieran Powell (51), who tried to launch him to the mid-wicket boundary but picked out lone fielder Anrich Nortje.

This hat-trick by Keshav Maharaj is the first ever hat-trick by a spinner in West Indies. He is the third bowler from the visiting team to achieve this feat in Caribbean Islands. The previous two bowlers were Jasprit Bumrah (Kingston, 2019) and Matthew Hoggard (Bridgetown, 2004).

Only one West Indian bowler achieved a hat-trick at home – Jermaine Lawson against Australia at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in 2003.
