This Indian pacer wants to play Test Cricket for India again!

It was 10 years ago on December 10, 2010 – a 19 year old lanky left arm Indian pacer made his Test debut. The match took place at Centurion against South Africa. Jacques Kallis scored a swash buckling double century in that match, tormenting almost every Indian bowler at display.

The left arm pacer we are talking about is Jaydev Unadkat – His debut bowling figures read 26-4-101-0. Unadkat’s test debut wasn’t all merry and that was the last India had seen of Unadkat in the red ball format. Ever since, he has ranked up in domestic cricket with a First Class bowling average of 23.21 – picking 327 wickets with a best of 7 for 41.

On the eve of his 10 year Test debut anniversay, Jaydev took to social media showcasing his desire to represent India in the longer format

The left arm Saurashtra pacer had a prolific Ranji Trophy season finishing as the leading wicket taker with 67 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 13.23. He picked 7 five wicket hauls in 16 innings he bowled.

With red ball attack lacking a left arm Indian pacer, Jaydev Unadkat has put his hat in the ring. Unadkat represented India in 7 ODIs (8 wickets at 26.12 average & 4.01 economy rate) and 10 T20Is (14 wickets at 21.50 average and 8.68 economy rate) since his Test debut.

Should India look in to bringing back some left arm pace options in to the longer format or should it continue breeding the top cream of pace attack the team has right now?
