Mujeeb tests COVID-19 positive

BBL franchise Brisbane Heat confirmed that Mujeeb Ur Rahman is tested COVID-19 positive. The 19 year old spinner travelled Brisbane from Kabul last week and was at a hotel in quarantine last week where he reported symptoms.

Mujeeb is currently recovering in a hospital and he will be under the care of the Queensland Health Department until he is absolutely fit to join the Brisbane Heat squad ahead of the new season.

Mujeeb played a crucial role in Heat’s success last season. He was roped in along with Tom Banton, Lewis Gregory and Dan Lawrence as the overseas sign ups. They also have the services of former South African pacer Morne Morkel as a local player.

The teenage sensation had a sensational Caribbean Premier League but couldn’t deliver in his sparse opportunities at IPL. Mujeeb has 15 wickets in Big Bash League career going at a miserly economy of 6.09. The mystery spinner is currently ranked No.2 in the ICC T20I bowler ratings just behind his country man Rashid Khan. He has 131 wickets in 124 T20 matches at an economy of 6.66.

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said the welfare of Mujeeb was of the highest concern for QC and the Brisbane Heat. The franchise tweeted wishing their young spinner a speedy recovery.

Big Bash League is set to start on December 10 while Brisbane Heat will be kicking off their campaign on December 11 against Melbourne Stars at Manuka Oval, Canberra.
