Kane Williamson fined 12 lakh INR

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson was fined a whooping 12 lakh INR for his team maintaining a slow over rate against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. SRH faced a heavy defeat that pushed their table standing to the bottom with a negative three net run rate.

“The Sunrisers Hyderabad have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their IPL 2022 match against Rajasthan Royals at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on March 29,” the IPL stated in a media release.

“As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the statement added.

Kane Williamson scored 2 runs in the match after being adjudged caught out by the third umpire – the decision reeked debate among fans as many opined the ball bounced before the catch was taken by Devdutt Padikkal.

Previously Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was also handed a 12 lakh INR fine for his team’s slow-over rate against Delhi Capitals.

Sunrisers will play their next match against Lucknow Super Giants at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on April 4. They are also scheduled to play Chennai Super Kings (April 9) and Gujarat Titans (April 11) at the same venue.

Slow Over Rate Rules

For the first offence in a season, the captain of the bowling team will be fined 12 lakhs.
For the second offence in a season, the captain of the bowling team will be fined 24 lakhs and the other 10 players will either be fined six lakhs or 25% of their match fees, depending on which amount is lesser.
For the third and each subsequent offence in a season, the captain of the bowling team will be fined 30 lakhs and will also be banned for one match. The other 10 players in the team will also be fined 12 lakhs or 50% of their match fees, depending on which amount is lesser.
