Kandy Tuskers rope in Dale Steyn

Proteas pacer Dale Steyn has signed up a deal with Kandy Tuskers for the Lanka Premier League (LPL). This would bolster the pace attack which already has the likes of Naveen-ul-Haq, Nuwan Pradeep, Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel.

Steyn comes in as a replacement for Sohail Tanvir who was tested positive for Covid 19 after landing in Sri Lanka. The Pakistan pacer is currently undergoing treatment in isolation. Kandy Tuskers has already faced a big blow when Chris Gayle withdrew himself from the tournament citing injury reasons. The other overseas players who have withdrawn from the Tuskers are Liam Plunkett and Wahab Riaz.

Steyn aged 37, last featured in a T20 for RCB in the IPL at the end of October. Lanka Premier League is set to begin on November 26 with Kandy Tuskers facing Colombo Kings in the opener at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota. This would mean Dale Steyn will not feature in the opening matches of the tournament due to quarantine protocols.

Former Sri Lankan cricketer and Kandy Tuskers assistant coach Farveez Maharoof said that they will assess when Steyn can start playing after consulting the health authorities.
