Moeen Ali tests positive for COVID-19 in Sri Lanka

England all-rounder Moeen Ali who arrived in Sri Lanka on Sunday along with his team mates has tested positive for coronavirus. He was the only cricketer in the England unit to test positive. He will observe a 10 day self isolation as per protocols laid out by the Sri Lankan government.

Following PCR tests administered on arrival at the airport in Hambantota on Sunday 3rd January, The England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that Moeen Ali has tested positive for COVID-19,” the ECB said in a release.

In addition to Moeen, England all-rounder Chris Woakes who was supposedly in close contact will also observe 10 day self-isolation.

“Chris Woakes has been deemed as a possible close contact, and he will observe a period of self-isolation and further testing,” the ECB said in its release.

The rest of the England players and staff will take a second PCR test on Tuesday, 5th January. The team will begin to train from Wednesday.

England is scheduled to take on hosts Sri Lanka in two tests as part of the ICC World Test Championship. The first test begins on 14th of January at Galle International Stadium at Galle. The second test will also be played at the same venue on 14th of January.
