Rohit Sharma appointed as vice captain for last 2 Tests against Australia

Team India opener Rohit Sharma who joined his team mates after 14 day quarantine period has been appointed as the vice captain for the last 2 Tests in Australia. He would take over the reigns from Cheteshwar Pujara.

This would mean India is going in with 3 different vice-captains in the Test series – in the form of Ajinkya Rahane (1st Test), Cheteshwar Pujara (2nd Test) and Rohit Sharma (3rd & 4th Test)

Rohit Sharma flew in from Sydney to join the team at Melbourne on January 30, Wednesday. Captain Rahane expressed excitement on the arrival of Rohit. “We are eexcited about Rohit coming back. Spoke to him yesterday, he’s waiting to join the team,” Rahane said.

India will take on Australia in the 3rd Test at Sydney on January 7. The Test series is currently level at 1-1 – with the Border Gavaskar Trophy still in the grip of Team India. Meanwhile Australia announced their Test squad and David Warner is likely to make his return.

There is also talk about T Natarajan coming in for Sydney Test to replace Umesh Yadav who was injured in the Boxing Day Test.
