8 IPL Jerseys: Then and Now

Let’s have a look at the evolution of IPL jerseys. The year of origin v the current year 2020.

Chennai Super Kings seems to have a stable version while all other teams have had a drastic change in their uniform over the period of 12 years. CSK is also the only team with the same captain over this period – MS Dhoni.

Delhi Daredevils rebranded to Delhi Capitals over the period – also had a jersey evolution from red black code to blue red code.

Mumbai Indians maintained the blue shade while the gold stripes decorated over the jersey as they sprung to championship victories over the last decade.

The inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals donned the royal blue jersey over years as they slowly brought in the pink for a noble cause – ‘Cancer Awareness’. The home city Jaipur is also known as the Pink City – hence they have gone Pink over the last 2-3 seasons.

Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the IPL with a Phoenix rising from the ashes theme. They have now evolved in to a orange black code – now called by the fans as the ‘Orange Army’.

Meanwhile Royal Challengers have begun with traditional Karnataka feel colors as they transformed over the years as a team sporting “Play Bold” motto and hence the brave red black code.

Kolkata Knight Riders have significantly transformed over the years as they hit the purple patch. The Ganguly days have seen the Black and gold code as they evolved in to a purple rich jersey code.

Kings XI Punjab have gone steady with maroon over years with different pattern changes.
