Mohammed Shami picked the wicket of KL Rahul off the first ball he bowled in IPL 2022 edition. He picked 3 wickets in the powerplay which reduced LSG to 29/4 in 4.3 overs. Deepak Hooda and IPL debutant Ayush Badoni put on a 87 run stand for the fifth wicket to rescue the team. Badoni registered a half-century on debut which helped Lucknow to 158-6 in 20 overs.

Amidst speculation, Hardik Pandya bowled his full quota in the match.

Chasing 159 runs to win, Gujarat Titans lost Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar in the first 13 balls – thanks to an exceptional spell by Dushmantha Chameera. Captain Hardik Pandya walked in to bat with the score at 15/2 and put on a 57-run stand with Matthew Wade (30) to put his team in a commanding position. Krunal Pandya picked the wicket of Hardik Pandya and that quickly followed with Deepak Hooda getting rid of Matthew Wade that pushed Titans on the back foot again with the score at 78/4 in 11.5 overs.

David Miller and Rahul Tewatia put on a 60 run stand in the next 5.4 overs to stamp Gujarat’s authority over the game. Debutant Abhinav Sadarangani who walked in with equation at 21 to win in 15 balls, scored 3 boundaries in his 7-ball 15 run cameo. Rahul Tewatia hit the winning boundary off Avesh Khan to seal the deal with 2 balls remaining.
