Lasith Malinga ends his T20 Career!
Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga announced his retirement from T20 Cricket – ending a 17-year journey in a format he gained legendary status in. Malinga known for his death bowling antics ended his career ten of 400 wicket mark.
The 38-year-old featured in 295 matches and took 390 wickets at an average of 19.68. He picked five 5-wicket hauls with a best of 6-7 to his name. His economy rate of 7.07 is quite impressive for a bowler who bowls in the power play and death overs!
Malinga announced his decision via his new Youtube channel, in which he had been analysing Sri Lanka’s limited-overs performances over the past few weeks. “Today I decided I want to give 100% rest to my T20 bowling shoes,” he said. “I want to thank each and every one who supported me and blessed me throughout my T20 journey.” Malinga went on to thank the officials and teammates of all the major teams he has been a part of, from the Sri Lanka national side, to Mumbai Indians, Melbourne Stars, and various other sides from around the world.
Malinga featured in 122 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians and picked 170 wickets at an average of 19.80. He picked a five-wicket haul (5/13) in IPL. Malinga is also the highest wicket taker in IPL history with Amit Mishra 4 wickets behind him!
On the International front Lasith Malinga led Sri Lanka to T20 World Cup glory in 2014. He featured in 84 International T20s and picked 107 wickets at an average of 20.79. He picked 2 five-wicket hauls with a best of 5-6 to his name.
