Unmukt Chand quits Indian Cricket
Former Indian U-19 captain Unmukt Chand who led Team India to a World Cup win at ICC U-19 World Cup 2012 has announced his decision to leave Indian Cricket at the age of 28. Chand has signed a 3-year deal with USA’s Major League Cricket (MLC).
The 28-year-old Delhi batsman grabbed attention by scoring a century in the final of U19 World Cup against Australia. Unmukt Chand scored a unbeaten 111 in the chase and sealed the game alongside wicket keeper batsman Smit Patel, who also left Indian cricket to play for USA.
Chand now joins 2 of his U-19 team mates Smit Patel and spinner Harmeet Singh who have moved to USA to play in Major League Cricket.
Unmukt Chand recorded 3379 First Class runs at an average of 31.57 with the help of 8 centuries and 16 half centuries. In List A cricket, Chand scored 4505 at an average of 41.33 powered by a strike rate of 75.15. He recorded 7 100s and 32 50s in List A Cricket.
Chand was picked by Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League. He scored 1565 T20 runs at an average of 22.35 and a mediocre strike rate of 116.09 in T20 cricket with the help of 3 centuries and 5 fifties.
“I don’t know how I should be feeling cause honestly I am still figuring it out,” he wrote.
“The very thought of not being able to represent my country again literally stops my heartbeat for a while. Personally there have been quite a few glorious moments in my cricketing journey in India. Winning the U-19 World cup for India is one of the biggest moments of my life. It was a special feeling to lift the cup as a captain and bring smiles to so many Indians across the world. I can never forget that feeling. Also, leading India A on numerous occasions and winning various bilateral and tri-series are etched in my memory forever.”, Unmukt Chand opined.
