T20 World Cup 2021 Groups Announced
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the groups for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 to be hosted by the BCCI in Oman and United Arab Emirates. The tourney is scheduled to take place from 17 October to 14 November.
The 2 groups were selected on the criteria of ICC team rankings as of 20th March 2021.
Group 1 has defending champions West Indies along with Australia, England, South Africa and 2 other teams which will be decided via qualifiers.
Group B has inaugural champions India along with arch rivals Pakistan in it. The other teams in Group 2 are New Zealand, Afghanistan and 2 other teams (decided by qualifiers).
In the qualifying stage, teams are divided in to Group A and B. Group A has Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands and Namibia. Group B consists of Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman.
The winner of Group A and runners up from Group B will proceed to Group 1 alongside England, Australia, West Indies and South Africa.
The winner of Group B and runners up from Group A proceed to Group 2 alongside India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Afghanistan.
The qualifying stage (Round 1) will start from 17 October and will end on 23 October.
The Super 12s will begin on 24 October.
