Shubman Gill set to miss early part of Test Series in England

The first Test between India and England will begin on August 4, 2021 and the Indian opener Shubman Gill is racing against time to get fit in time for the Test series. Reports suggest the availability of Gill is very uncertain and he might miss the early part of the Test series or the entire series depending on his recovery from the injury.

It is said that the 21-year-old Indian Test opener is carrying a leg injury pertaining to the stress in the shin which will keep him out of action for a while as it will take time to recover.

However, Gill is set to continue to remain with the touring party in the hope that he will be fit enough to come into the scheme of things sometime during the Test series, which ends only after two and half months.

As per reports, Gill was carrying this injury for quite a while but it aggravated during the recent times.

Shubman Gill featured in 8 Tests and 3 ODIs for Team India. He scored 414 runs in 15 Test innings at an average of 31.84 with a high score of 91. In the series down under, Gill scored 259 runs in 3 Tests at an average of 51.80 and has snatched the opening spot alongside Rohit Sharma.

The injury to Gill is a setback for the team as Gill showed good touch in away series but the team management has options in the form of Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma.

The team will travel to Durham in a couple of weeks for a pre-series camp and a couple of intra-squad games – the reporting day for the players, who have taken a break after the WTC final, is July 14. India is scheduled to play 5 Tests against England which will be a part of ICC World Test Championship. The series begins on August 4th at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. The other venues are Lord’s, Headingley, Kennington Oval and Old Trafford.
