New Zealand Cricket Central Contracts 2021-22
20 Kiwi cricketers earned the new New Zealand Cricket central contracts for the period of 2021-22. The newest members who got their contract are all-rounder Daryl Mitchell and keeper-batsman Glenn Phillips.
BJ Watling who announced retirement recently is omitted from the contract list. Also missing from the list is 32-year old left arm spinner Ajaz Patel who represented New Zealand in 8 tests and 2 T20Is.
Chief selector Gavin Larsen commended the addition of Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips to the contacts list.
“There’s no question Daryl and Glenn took their games to another level over the summer and have added to the growing depth of talent we now enjoy.”, Larsen said.
Larsen also backed Ajaz Patel who missed the contract for 2021-22 season. Ajaz Patel was sidelined with calf injury at the start of the Test season and was unable to make his comeback in to the side as the conditions favoured seam and swing.
“After such a successful summer in which we used a variety of players across the three formats, there was always going to be a squeeze on for positions and, unfortunately, Ajaz has been a victim of that success.”, Larsen opined.
“He missed the start of the Test season with his calf injury and was unable to make it back into the side during a summer in which seam and swing dominated. However, we are well aware of Ajaz’s value as a frontline spinner, particularly in overseas conditions and he’s therefore still very much in our thinking going forward.”, he added.
New Zealand Players receive NZ$8,495 per test, NZ$3,682 per one-day international and NZ$2,407 for a Twenty20 international.
Last season Devon Conway was the surprise entry to the contract list and he made a mark for himself during the New Zealand summer. Kyle Jamieson, the Kiwi pace bowling all-rounder made it to the list for the second year in a row.
