Sunrisers Hyderabad hand over captaincy to Kane Williamson
With Sunrisers Hyderabad languishing at the bottom of the table, the franchise has made a decision to hand over the captaincy to Kane Williamson from David Warner.
The franchise announced their decision on social media:
The announcement declared the change in captaincy and overseas combinations for the future matches.
David Warner scored 193 runs in 6 matches at an average of 32.16 in IPL 2021. His strike rate of 110.28 is under the scanner. Nevertheless, Warner and Bairstow always put the opposition on the back foot with their attacking cricket and running between the wickets.
David Warner led Sunrisers to IPL championship in 2016 edition and the team made it to playoffs every season ever since.
Kane Williamson led Sunrisers to the finals of 2018 IPL edition in the absence of David Warner. Williamson also won the Orange Cap that season scoring 735 runs at an average of 52.50 at a strike rate of 142.44.
The fans have not taken the decision from the management well as many loyal fans still back David Warner despite a lean slump. David Warner has been a massive impact factor for SRH as he won many matches single-handedly for the team.
Sunrisers has a change in top level management with Tom Moody announced as the Director of Cricket with Trevor Bayliss taking over as head coach last season. The team has been missing Muthiah Muralitharan who recently had a successful angioplasty. The decision coming at this point of season is baffling as David Warner led his team to playoffs last season from a similar tricky situation.
