Rohit Sharma fined INR 12 lakh for slow over rate
Mumbai Indians lost against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday at Chepauk and they also faced a minor hiccup with captain Rohit Sharma fined for slow over rate.
Mumbai has become the second team to be subject to the new slow over rate penalty rules as captain Rohit Sharma was fined INR 12 lakh for his side maintaining a slow over-rate.
If Rohit Sharma’s team fails to deliver the overs in time again he will be levied 24 lakh INR and a subsequent offence would mean one match ban and 30 lakh INR fine for the skipper.
Apparently the first team to be levied fine this season, Chennai Super Kings have also faced this fate during their game against Delhi Capitals which they lost.
As per the new rules the over rate per hour is 14.1 overs. A captain may face a match ban after the third slow over rate offence.
Mumbai had to combat with the dew conditions with 3 spinners in their line up in the form of Krunal Pandya, Jayant Yadav and Rahul Chahar. The fielders kept constantly wiping the ball with towels to keep the ball dry with the dew got heavier as the innings progressed.
Here are the new slow over rate penalty rules as per the new IPL norms:
First Offence:
12 lakh INR fine for the captain
Second Offence:
24 lakh INR fine for the captain
Or
6 lakh INR or 25% match fee fine (which ever is lesser) for each member of the team excluding captain.
Third and Each Subsequent Offence:
30 lakh INR fine and one-match ban for the captain
Or
12 lakh INR or 50% match fee fine (whichever is lesser) for each member of the team excluding the captain.
My dream team will feature Marcus Trescothick and Anil Kumble
