IPL Auction 2021 Team Budget – before player release

The IPL 2021 mini auction is set to take place on February 11 and teams are given the deadline till January 20th to submit their list of retained and released players. Each team is given a limited budget of 85 crore INR in the IPL auction event.

“We are not increasing the purse size for the franchises. 85 Crore will be the limit for IPL franchises to make their teams for IPL 2021′, confirmed IPL GC Chairman Brijesh Patel

Let us see how each IPL Franchise purse size is at the moment in decreasing order before the players release and retention list:

Kings XI Punjab  (Remaining Purse: Rs. 16.5 crores)

Kings XI Punjab has big salaried star in the form of Glenn Maxwell who is a possibility to be released along with few others to bring more budget into their wallet so that they can buy players of choice during the IPL auction.

Rajasthan Royals (Remaining Purse: 14.75 crores)

Rajasthan Royals had a promising start to IPL 2020 but they fell flat in the later half of the tournament. This might prompt the owners to make hard calls. Some reports suggest they might bid good bye to captain Steve Smith. Either way they would be looking to have a purse of 20-25 crore to make proper purchase of their choice.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (Remaining Purse: Rs. 10.1 crores)

Sunrisers Hyderabad have always had a decent IPL auction and currently their team is one of those stable units which might just need a touch here and there. We might see some releases in stand point of fine tuning their existing team. A likely purse of 15-20 crore can be handy at the auction for the SRH unit.

Delhi Capitals (Remaining Purse: 9 crores)

Delhi Capitals finished runners up in the IPL 2020 edition and are equipped with a pretty stable unit. Their search for a Indian pacer remains the only issue. With Ishant Sharma back they might get the must needed respite. Either way you can see Delhi Capitals not making many calls in the upcoming auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders (Remaining Purse: Rs. 8.5 crores)

Kolkata Knight Riders have some big salaried players in the form of Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik and Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep Yadav has been their biggest dud in past 2 seasons which may prompt a release to widen their purse. Reports suggest that even Dinesh Karthik might be released. We will get our answer in few days.

Royal Channel Bangalore (Remaining Purse: Rs 6.4 crores)

With players like Parthiv Patel retiring from all formats and Dale Steyn announcing his unavailability this season – RCB purse is set to enlarge. They would be hoping for the availability of Kane Richardson who missed out the previous season. This will also give them a chance to look for new pace bowling options. Reports suggest that Umesh Yadav might also come under the release list. Time will tell how Royal Challengers Bangalore would like to shape their unit.

Mumbai Indians (Remaining Purse: 1.95 crores)

Easily the most stable unit in the tournament right now. The defending champions have already clinched 5 IPL titles in the last 8 seasons and have covered all bases. Mumbai Indians might look for back up options in the upcoming IPL auction and might be the most inactive franchise at the auction table.

Chennai Super Kings (Remaining Purse: Rs 0.15 crore)

MS Dhoni future in IPL auction

You saw it right! Chennai Super Kings just got 15 lakh available as we speak. So get ready for a huge chopping including some big names. Some real big names might bow out in the release list. Reports are confused about Suresh Raina’s continuity with CSK. Chennai franchise could be set for some massive revamp as their aged stars might need a proper balance to go with in the squad.

Note: Teams are allowed to trade players ahead of the IPL auction event.
