Netherlands vs West Indies, 2nd ODI: The rise of Brandon King
West Indies took a 2-0 lead in the 3 match ODI series against Netherlands. The visitors now bagged 20 points in the ICC ODI Super League table for the World Cup qualification and moved up to 6th spot on the points table. They are tied on 70 points with Australia and Afghanistan but have a poorer net run rate which put them at No.6.
Earlier Netherland won the toss and chose to bat. They were off to a brilliant start as the openers put on a 101-run stand in 20.3 overs. Vikramjit Singh (46) and Max ODowd (51)’s effort went in vain as the remaining batters except Scott Edwards toppled down for single digits.
Dutch wicket-keeper batsman Scott Edwards top scored for the team with a 89-ball 68. Windies spinner Akeal Hosein got 4 out of top 7 Netherlands batsmen. Netherlands were bowled out for 214 runs in 48.3 overs.
Chasing 215 runs to win, West Indies were reduced to 60/4 with Nicholas Pooran being bowled out by Aryan Dutt for the second consecutive time. Few overs later Kyle Mayers departed for 22 runs reducing Windies to 99/5 in 23.2 overs. Rejuvenated Brandon King came to the team’s rescue while Keacy Carty scored a 43* off 66 balls in his maiden ODI innings.
King and Carty put on a 118-run stand for the sixth wicket to help their team over the victory line. Brandon remained unbeaten on 91 runs off 90 balls with 9 fours & 3 sixes. He now pushed his batting average to 41.57. The final ODI will be played on June 4, Saturday.
