CSK announce new captain for IPL 2022
CSK has announced a new captain for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League. MS Dhoni who led the team for 12 seasons, has handed over the captaincy responsibilities to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
Jadeja becomes the third CSK cricketer to take up the captaincy duties – the other two being MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina. CSK has recorded 121 wins in 204 IPL matches under Dhoni’s leadership.
Under Dhoni, CSK lifted the trophy four times – 2010, 2011, 2018 & 2021. CSK has finished runners-up five times under MS – 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015 & 2019.
Ravindra Jadeja has been a part of CSK set up since 2012. The all-rounder was a part of championship winning CSK twice. Jadeja has been playing IPL since the inaugural season where he was a part of Rajasthan Royals. He later moved to Kochi Tuskers briefly before being picked by Chennai Super Kings. He also played for Gujarat Lions during the suspension period of CSK.
The 33-year-old all-rounder has featured in 200 IPL matches and scored 2386 runs at an average of 27.11 powered by a strike rate of 128.07. He picked 127 wickets at an average of 30.04 conceding 7.61 runs per over. He has one 5 wicket haul (5-16) and three 4 wicket hauls to his name.
Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions and they will face last year’s runners up Kolkata Knight Riders in the season opener on March 26 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
