New Zealand vs Australia: T20 World Cup Final Report – Aussies prevail!
T20 World Cup Final Toss: Australia won the toss and elect to bowl
Australia clinched their 6th ICC World Cup title after defeating New Zealand by 8 wickets in a Trans-Tasman battle. Earlier Australian skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and elect to bowl first as it has been a norm at Dubai this World Cup edition. Finch went with the same XI while Kane Williamson’s New Zealand had to make a forced change due to Devon Conway’s injury. Tim Siefert walked in to take his place.
Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson raised to the occasion as he smacked a sumptuous 85 in 48 balls to help his team to a formidable total of 172-4 in 20 overs. The surprise was the bowling display of Mitchell Starc who went for 60 runs in his 4 overs spell without picking a wicket!
Trent Boult struck first blood for New Zealand as he got rid of Aaron Finch. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh put on a 92-run stand for the second wicket in 9.5 overs to put Aussies in advantageous position. Boult returned to remove David Warner for 53 to usher some hope in the Blackcaps camp.
Maxwell joined Mitchell Marsh in Aussie domination as they achieved the target with 7 balls to spare. Marsh remained unbeaten on 77* in 50 balls with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes which fetched him the Man of the Match Award in the finals.
