Australia announce T20 World Cup Squad – Carey out!

The new selection committee under George Bailey announced the Australian 15 member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup edition in Oman and UAE. Aaron Finch will lead the team with Pat Cummins as his deputy. The squad is assisted by three travelling reserves in the form of Dan Christian, Nathan Ellis and Daniel Sams.

The squad sees the return of star cricketers David Warner, Steven Smith, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell who missed the recent tours to West Indies and Bangladesh.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis has been drafted in to the squad ahead of Alex Carey. Carey recently led the ODI team in West Indies in the absence of Aaron Finch.

“We have some of the best players in the world in their respective roles combined with the collective experience to succeed against the very best T20 sides in the world,” chairman of selectors George Bailey said.

Allrounders Dan Christian and Daniel Sams have been named as the reserve players alongside Nathan Ellis, who picked up a hat-trick recently in Bangladesh on debut. All three will travel with the squad for the showpiece event. Australia, who have never won the tournament before, will take on South Africa in a Super12 encounter on October 23 to kick off their campaign.
