Kyle Mayers to play T20 Blast
Birmingham Bears have roped in a deal with Windies allrounder Kyle Mayers for a short stint to play in the last three group matches of the T20 Blast. Warwickshire confirmed that he will be available to feature in their next match against Worcestershire on Friday.
Kyle Rico Mayers has featured in 61 T20 matches scoring 688 runs at an average of 16.78 powered by a strike rate of 110.78. He also picked 16 wickets conceding 7.79 runs an over in the shorter format.
Mayers earned his T20 Internationcal cap in November 2020, where West Indies took on New Zealand in T20I series in Mount Maunganui.
Mayers hit the headlines earlier this year when he hit an unbeaten double century on Test debut against Bangladesh to help his side chase down 395. He made his ODI debut on the same tour and played a couple of T20Is just a couple of months prior to that in New Zealand.
“I’m very excited by this opportunity to join up with the Bears and I hope that I can contribute with the bat and ball during these final three important games of the Blast,” Mayers said.
“I understand that the Bears have enjoyed a good association with West Indies cricketers and I’m very proud to join this list of players. Hopefully, I can make some important contributions, which secure our path through to the knock-out stages.” He added.
“Kyle played superbly in last year’s CPL, which helped him to break into the Windies ranks across all formats. Being able to add Kyle, as a hard-hitting batsman and skillful seam bowler, to our squad as we bid for a quarterfinal place is a great boost. We also recognise how motivated Kyle is by this opportunity to feature in another leading T20 tournament with an ICC T20 World Cup just around the corner.”, Director of Cricket Paul Farbrace said.
My dream team will feature Marcus Trescothick and Anil Kumble
