WTC Final: Wasim Jaffer’s Playing XI for Team India
Former Indian batsman and social media meme sensation Wasim Jaffer gave out his Team India playing 11 for the inaugural World Test Championship final. Team India announced their squad for the grand final, which didn’t have the likes of Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul and Shardul Thakur.
Jaffer tweeted his playing 11 in his iconic cryptic style:
Here is the squad decoded by us:
Wasim Jaffer’s Team India XI for WTC Final:
Rohit Sharma (MI), Shubman Gill (KKR), Cheteshwar Pujara (CSK), Virat Kohli (RCB), Ajinkya Rahane (DC), Rishabh Pant (DC), Ravindra Jadeja (CSK), Ravichandran Ashwin (DC), Ishant Sharma (DC), Mohammed Shami (PBKS), Jasprit Bumrah (MI)
Jaffer also talked about the pitch and conditions in Southampton. He opined the track has changed over a few times since he played for India the last time there in a warm up match against Hampshire. He believed the pitch will be a good one which offers pace and bounce and turns on Day 4 and 5 of the Test.
Wasim Jaffer backed his decision to play Ishant Sharma in the XI as his experience counts and is a better bowler against left handed batsmen. He felt India has the luxury of playing both spinners as both of them can bat and have Test centuries to their name.
Talking about the weakness in New Zealand cricket team, the former Indian batsman opined that BlackCaps win Test matches when they dominate the proceedings from the start but he has not seen them come from behind and clinch a Test. He feels that if Indian bowlers can put them under pressure early on in the Test match that would push New Zealand on the back foot.
India takes on New Zealand in the finals on June 18-22 with 23 June designated as a reserve day. The playing conditions for the final have been laid out as a special edition Dukes Ball will be used for the final.
My dream team will feature Marcus Trescothick and Anil Kumble
