West Indies Test squad against South Africa announced
West Indies announced 17 member provisional Test squad for the home series against South Africa. South Africa will face West Indies in 2 Tests before heading on to 5 T20I series in the Caribbean islands.
Daren Sammy Stadium at St Lucia will host both the Tests while Grenada National Cricket Stadium will host the five match T20I series.
The squad of 17 will be led by Kraigg Brathwaite with Jermaine Blackwood as his deputy. The squad has seen the return of Roston Chase, Shai Hope and Kieran Powell while opening batsman John Campbell made his way out of the squad.
19-year-old Trinidad and Tobago fast bowler Jayden Seales made it to the squad. Seales has featured in just one First Class match and picked one wicket in it. The pacer battery comprises of all-rounder Jason Holder, Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Shanoon Gabriel and Jayden Seales.
Jomel warrican and Rahkeem Cornwall are in the squad to take up the spin duties. The middle order looks strong with the presence of Darren Bravo, Jermaine Blackwood, Kyle Mayers and the reliable Nkrumah Bonner in the squad.
Joshua Da Sila, Shai Hope and Jahmar Hamilton are the wicket keeper batsmen in the squad. Hamilton featured in just 1 Test and 1 ODI for the West Indies. Meanwhile Shai Hope who makes a return to the West Indies Test squad, has played his last Test for his nation in July 2020.
The first Test will begin on June 10 while the second Test is scheduled to start on June 18.
South Africa is currently ranked No.7 in the ICC Test rankings with 80 points just below West Indies (84 points). A Test series win will guarantee South Africa the No.6 spot in the points table.
