Top run getter from each nation in WTC

New Zealand clinched the inaugural edition of ICC World Test Championship by beating India by 8 wickets. The fun fact though is no New Zealand batsman has recorded over 1000 runs in WTC.

A total of 6 batsmen scored over 1000 runs in inaugural World Test Championship in the form of Marnus Labuschagne (1675), Joe Root (1660), Steven Smith (1341), Ben Stokes (1334), Ajinkya Rahane (1159) and Rohit Sharma (1094).

Here is the list of the top run getters for each nation in ICC WTC tournament:

1. Australia – Marnus Labuschagne – 1675 runs

Aussie cricketer Marnus Labuschagne made his mark on International cricket during the inaugural World Test Championship. Aussies brought him in as a concussion substitute for Steven Smith and Labuschagne never looked back ever since.

Labuschagne scored 1675 runs at an average of 72.82 with 5 centuries and 9 half centuries. He recorded a highest score of 215.

2. England – Joe Root – 1660 runs

England skipper Joe Root scored 1660 runs at an average of 47.42 with 3 centuries and 8 half centuries in 37 innings. He recorded a highest score of 228 runs.

3. India – Ajinkya Rahane – 1159 runs

Ajinkya Rahane top scored for Team India in WTC with 1159 runs at an average of 42.92 with 3 centuries and 6 half centuries in 30 innings. Rahane scored 131 fours and 6 sixes in the tournament with a highest score of 115.

Meanwhile Rohit Sharma became the only opener to score over 1000 runs in the inaugural WTC tournament (1094 runs in 19 innings). He top scored with 212 runs. Virat Kohli is the 3rd highest run getter for India with 934 runs in 24 innings.

The Kiwi captain top scored for his country with 918 runs at an average of 61.20 with 3 centuries and 2 half centuries. His highest score in the tournament is 251 runs.
