RR pacer Chetan Sakariya loses his father to Covid-19
In yet another extremely tragic news, Rajasthan Royals young sensation Chetan Sakariya lost his dad Mr Kanjibhai Sakariya to battle with Covid-19.
The news broke out on TV9 Gujarat and was later confirmed by the Rajasthan Royals franchise on social media. It was reported that Sakariya’s father Kanjibhai has succumbed to Covid-19 at a hospital in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar on Sunday.
Chetan Sakariya had visited his ailing father at the hospital just a day before.
With the IPL getting suspended due to multiple Covid positive cases across four different franchises, as soon as Chetan Sakariya reached his home at Vartej in Bhavnagar district, the left-arm pacer took a shower, wore his PPE kit, and rushed to the hospital where his father Kanjibai was admitted.
Chetan Sakariya, who was picked up for a life-changing amount of Rs 1.90 Crore during the last IPL auction, impressed one and all with his bowling and fielding skills. Sakariya featured in all 7 matches for Rajasthan Royals this season, picking 7 wickets with a best of 3/31 on his IPL debut.
The left arm pacer revealed to the Indian Express that the franchise paid him a part of his salary already and he had immediately transferred the payment that he had received from Rajasthan Royals back home and the amount is helping his father in such tough times.
“I was lucky because I had received my part payment from Rajasthan Royals a few days ago. I straight away transferred money back home, and that is helping my family the most in my toughest time,” Chetan Sakariya told the Indian Express.
Unfortunately, the money couldn’t save his father as Kanjubai eventually succumbed to Covid-19 which has been a scourge to the nation currently. This is the second tragic occurrence in the Sakariya family this year. Earlier this year, Chetan had lost his brother due to suicide.
