Cricket West Indies International Contracts 2021-22
18 West Indies cricketers were handed over the central contracts by the Cricket West Indies (formerly known as WICB). ICC Test No.1 all-rounder Jason Holder is the only cricketer to be handed an all-format contract by Cricket West Indies while spin bowling all-rounder Roston Chase lost his all-format contract.
Kyle Mayers and Nkrumah Bonner, who were the stars of West Indies team in the famous Test series win in Bangladesh earlier this year, are among four players to receive first-time central contracts from Cricket West Indies for the 2021-22 season. The other two who received their maiden contracts are wicket keeper-batsman Joshua Da Silva (red-ball contract) and left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein (white-ball contract).
Big names Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Sheldon Cottrell, Shane Dowrich and Keemo Paul have been dropped from the retainer contracts. However, all players who are no longer on International retainer contracts will be offered an A* grade Regional Franchise Contract for the following year.
The contracts are evaluated over the period of April 1 2020 to April 1 2021.
“I am happy for all the players who have been offered retainer contracts for the upcoming period. Especially pleasing was the number of players who were awarded first time contracts in recognition of their performances during the period under review.” said Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams.
“I know that the eleven players who have lost their International retainers will be striving and fighting hard to get back into the teams and earn their central contracts back next year. These players, along with our T20 specialists, will ensure that we have genuine competition for places that will push everyone to attain higher standards of performance.”
The contracts handed out now will be effective between the time for a year starting July 1, 2021.
