2 KKR players tested positive – KKR v RCB match rescheduled

2 KKR cricketers Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier were tested positive in the third round of testing in the last four days. All other KKR cricketers and staff were tested negative for COVID-19. Keeping the current situation in mind, BCCI and IPL governing body decided to postpone the KKR v RCB fixture as per IPL Safety Guidelines, to another date which is yet to be announced.

It was told that Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier might have contracted the infection when they had gone out for scans for injuries.

Both the players have isolated themselves from the rest of the squad. The Medical Team is in continuous touch with the duo and are monitoring their health. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders have now moved towards a daily testing routine to identify any other possible cases and treat them at the earliest. 

The Medical Team is also determining the close and casual contacts of the two positive cases during the 48 hours prior to collection of the sample that returned the positive test results. 

BCCI released a statement saying – “The BCCI and the Kolkata Knight Riders prioritise the health and safety of everyone involved and all measures are being taken in that endeavour.”

Varun Chakravarthy featured in 7 IPL matches for KKR this season and picked 7 wickets at an average of 24.20 with an impressive economy rate of 7.34 making him one of the important elements of KKR unit.

Meanwhile Sandeep Warrier has not featured in any of the fixtures in IPL 2021 so far. He played 1 match in IPL 2020 and went wicketless. In 2019 edition he played 3 matches picking 2 wickets.

The Virat Kohli led RCB are on 3rd place with 10 points whike KKR are languishing at the 7th spot with 2 wins from 7 matches.
