WATCH: Chris Gayle faces unusual bowling action by Riyan Parag
Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag resorted to an unusual side-arm delivery to fox the dangerous Chris Gayle who was looking in dangerous form.
With the pair of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle well set with a boundary smacking partnership, RR captain Sanju Samson decided to bring in Riyan Parag in the 10th over. Parag was welcomed with a four by KL Rahul followed by a single off the 2nd ball.
With Gayle on strike, Parag decided to go round arm to keep the batsman guessing. Gayle drove the ball down to long-off for a single. That delivery was so round arm that the umpire had a polite warning talk to the bowler.
WATCH HERE:
2 balls later Parag got the valuable wicket of Chris Gayle who mistimed the hit and got caught at long on by Ben Stokes, who took a brilliant catch and in the process hurting his finger!
The Kedar Jadhavesque delivery is making the rounds and if it went any lower – the Umpire would have called it illegal.
As per the Laws of Cricket now (2000 Code) – it is declared that an underarm delivery is illegal unless otherwise agreed before the match. A delivery is a no–ball if it bounces more than twice before passing the popping crease: an underarm delivery cannot be performed rolling along the ground.
Riyan Parag later came in to bat scoring a crucial 11 ball 25 to power the team in the huge chase.
