Jason Behrendorff replaces Josh Hazlewood in CSK

Chennai Super Kings signed up Aussie pacer Jason Behrendorff to repalce Josh Hazlewood for the IPL 2021 season. Earlier Hazlewood pulled out of IPL 2021 to keep himself fresh for the Ashes and the T20 World Cup scheduled this year.

CSK has currently got pace bowling options in the form of Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo and Lungi Ngidi. With Behrendorff in they have a left arm pace variety to couple with the right arm Indian pacers in the form of Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur.

The left arm pacer from Australia previously represented Mumbai Indians in their championship year in 2019 where he played 5 matches and picked 5 wickets for the team. He has picked 90 wickets in 77 innings at an average of 22.27 in his T20 career. His career economy rate of 7.20 is quite impressive as well.

Behrendorff represented Australia in 11 ODIs and 7 T20Is. He was a part of Australia’s bowling attack at the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

CSK announced the news of replacement on their social media handle:

Behrendorff represents Perth Scorchers in Big Bash League. He picked 70 wickets in his Big Bash League career at a miserly economy rate of 6.85 for a bowler bowling in powerplay.

Chennai Super Kings take on Delhi Capitals in their first match at Mumbai. Behrendorff would miss a few matches as he would be subject to the required quarantine procedure as per BCCI norms.
