The second innings was hit by a desert storm at Sharjah and India’s target was corrected to 276 runs in 46 overs. India needed 237 runs to qualify for the finals against Australia. They were bogged down to 138-4 in 29 overs when VVS Laxman joined to build a 102 run partnership with Sachin Tendulkar for the 5th wicket in 84 balls.
The triangular series was played between India, Australia and New Zealand.
India entered the finals and defeated Australia which was also incidentally on Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday. Tendulkar recorded yet another blasting century to help India to tournament victory!
