Yuvraj Singh and Sachin Tendulkar power India Legends to win against South Africa Legends
Former Indian batsmen turned back clock to power India Legends to 204/3 in 20 overs against Proteas Legends. Having lost the toss and been put to bat first, India Legends lost Virender Sehwag in the 2nd over for 6 runs in 8 balls.
That set the stage for some stabilization in the form of Sachin Tendulkar and Subramanium Badrinath. Both batsmen played some sumptuous shots as Tendulkar brough up his half century in 30 balls. He smacked 2 more boundaries before being dismissed for 60 runs in 37 balls.
Badrinath had to leave the field shortly due to cramps and with the score at 113-2 in 13.3 overs – it was slog time for Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan to up the ante.
Yusuf Pathan smacked 2 fours and 2 sixes in his 10 ball 23 run cameo and the score read as 141-3 in 16.2 overs. Manpreet Gony walked in to bat coming after a successful slog campaign against England Legends.
Yuvraj Singh brought back the World T20 2007 memories when he went severe on Zander de Bruyn. The left handed batsmen struck 4 sixes in 4 balls in the 18th over of the match as the crowd at Raipur erupted in joy. Yuvraj hit 2 more sixes after that to push his team to 204/3 in 20 overs.
Gony (16 in 9 balls) and Yuvraj put on a 63 run stand in 22 balls to give India Legends an edge in the defence.
South Africa Legends openers powered their team to 81-0 in 10 overs posing threat to the Indian target – but Yusuf Pathan got the price wicket of Andrew Puttick (41 in 35 balls) in the 11th over. His opening partner Morne van Wyk departed the next over in the bowling of Pragyan Ojha for 48 in 35 balls. Yusuf Pathan struck big when he got the wicket of Alviro Petersen for just 7 runs in the form of a brilliant caught and bowled attempt.
Indian bowlers continued picking wickets in the 2nd half of the South African innings as the equation kept going far away from the Proteas batsmen reach. Captain Jonty Rhodes remained unbeaten on 22 runs as batsmen fell around him. South Africa Legends could only manage 148-7 in 20 overs handing over India a 56 run win – the biggest win in the tournament by a team batting first.
Yuvraj Singh came in handy with the ball too by picking the wickets of Loots Bosman and Roger Telemachus.
