You Decide: Kyle Jamieson’s Catch – Out or Not Out!
Kyle Jamieson’s catch was the centre of controversy amidst the growing discomfort over the on-field umpire soft signal in International Cricket.
The incident occurred in the 15th over of Bangladesh’s innings when Kiwi pacer Kyle Jamieson took a return catch off Tamim Iqbal and the on field umpire Chris Brown gave a soft signal ‘OUT’ before sending it upstairs to the TV umpire Wayne Knights who made the decision ruling Tamim Iqbal’s return catch had not been taken cleanly by Jamieson.
Further Kyle Jamieson has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second One-Day International against Bangladesh in Christchurch on Tuesday. Jamieson reacted angrily to the TV umpire’s decision ruling the catch was not cleanly taken.
Jamieson admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees and ratified by the ICC Cricket Operations department as per the COVID-19 interim playing regulations. There was no need for a formal hearing.
