Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 final: Prithvi Shaw and Aditya Tare power Mumbai to championship title against UP
The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 final was a high scoring affair as both teams posted over 300 runs thanks to some power packed batting performances. Mumbai pipped Uttar Pradesh by 6 wickets – thanks to a lifting start given by their captain Prithvi Shaw yet again with his knock of 73 in 39 balls. Aditya Tare registered his maiden List A century and guiding his team safely to a big win!
Madhav Kaushik Record
Earlier UP captain Karan Sharma won the toss and elect to bat first in the crunch finale. UP openers Madhav Kaushik and Samarth Singh put on a opening stand of 122 runs in 26 overs which set the base for the team to propel. Prashant Solanki got the first break through for Mumbai as Samarth Singh departed for 55 in 73 balls.
Captain Karan Sharma who looked impressive in his last 2 outings (83 & 38), missed out for a golden duck as he was caught behind by Aditya Tare off the bowling of Tanush Kotian. Priyam Garg (21 in 26 balls) stay was brief as well – as UP was reduced to 161/3 in 34.1 overs.
Akshdeep Nath held fort with sublime stroke making as he put on a partnership of 128 runs with Madhav Kaushik. Kaushik brought up his century in 125 balls as UP’s score read as 210-3 in 41 overs. The duo then smashed 79 runs in 48 balls to accelerate the team’s scoring.
Kaushik registered his 150 with 3 balls to spare in the UP innings and followed it up with 2 more boundaries – making it 3 boundaries in 3 balls to secure Uttar Pradesh a total of 312-4 in 50 overs against a formidable Mumbai team. Madhav Kaushik was unbeaten on 158 runs in 156 balls – with the help of 15 fours and 4 sixes. This is the highest score by a batsman in the final of Vijay Hazare Trophy!
The Shaw Show
Needing 313 runs to win – Captain Prithvi Shaw wasted no time whatsoever as he tormented new ball bowlers Yash Dayal and Aaqib Khan all over the park. Shaw scored a 30 ball half ton as he brought up his fifty with a SIX off Shivam Mavi. He continued his onslaught against pacer Shivam Mavi and spinner Shivam Sharma before getting out for 73 in the bowling of Shivam Mavi.
Shaw scored 73 runs in 39 balls with the help of 10 fours and 4 sixes. Mumbai were 89-1 in 9.1 overs at the time Shaw departed. This blasting start meant Mumbai had to just go steady with their run scoring as the required run rate was below 5.50.
Tare’s maiden List A century
New batsman in Aditya Tare played some risk-free shots to kick off his innings as he put on a 38 run stand with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal before the left hander got carried away trying to play shots and departed for 29 in 30 balls.
All-rounder Shams Mulani walked in at no.4 for Mumbai as Aditya Tare kept the run flow going as both batsmen rotated strike with the required run rate in low 5.00s. Tare brought up his half century in 51 balls with the team requiring 125 runs in 24 overs to win.
The duo put on a 88 run stand for the 3rd wicket before Mulani departed for 36 in 43 balls. Shivam Dube joined in Aditya Tare and accelerated the run scoring with a 28 ball 47 as he lost his wicket attempting a six with just 12 more runs to win.
