Lara, Jacobs, Kirk Edwards power West Indies Legends to their first win!
West Indies Legends finally put some points on board after a 5 wicket win against Bangladesh Legends in Unacademy Road Safety World Series. Sulieman Benn continued his good run with the ball while Kirk Edwards top scored in the chase for the Windies unit.
Earlier captain Lara won the toss and chose to bowl as Bangladesh put on a decent total of 169-7 in 20 overs. It could have been more if not for a miserly effort with the ball again by Sulieman Benn. Benn returned with bowling figures of 4-0-17-3 – picking the price wickets of Mohammad Sharif, Khaled Masud and Mohammad Rafique.
Chasing 170 runs to win – Windies openers kicked on the pump with William Perkins smacking a 14 ball 22 with the help of 4 fours. Dwayne Smith walked in at no.3 and played a 5 ball 10 run cameo before getting bowled out by the left arm spinner Abdur Razzak. At the departure of Smith the score read at 41-2 in 4.3 overs.
The new batsman in Kirk Edwards who clearly still got the skills powered his way to 28 ball 46 – top scoring for his team and putting on a partnership of 72 runs with Ridley Jacobs (34 in 30 balls) for the 3rd wicket.
At Jacobs departure, Windies Legends needed 45 runs to win in 6 overs. Captain Lara (31* in 23 balls) and Mahendra Nagamootoo (16* in 10 balls) finished the proceedings for Windies Legends with a powerful finishing display.
West Indies Legends secured a 5 wicket win with 7 balls remaining!
