India beat England by 66 runs in the 1st ODI – Records for debutants Krunal & Prasidh!

India beat England by 66 runs in the 1st ODI to finally go 1 up in the first match of the ODI format after beginning on a losing note in both Test and T20I series.

Earlier England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elect to bowl. Captain Kohli said he wanted to bat as well. Team India went in with 2 ODI debutants in the form of Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna. England included Moeen Ali and Sam Billings in to the mix with Ben Stokes to walk in to bat at No.3

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were watchful against the pace and swing of Mark Wood and Sam Curran. In the 5th over Mark Wood’s back of the length delivery missed Rohit Sharma’s backfoot defence and struck a painful blow on his elbow and it seriously rattled the mood of the innings. India were 39-0 in 10 overs.

Team India brought up their 50 in 12.5 overs. Rohit Sharma fell  to Ben Stokes’ first ball since 2019 in ODI cricket. Rohit was caught behind by Jos Buttler for 28 in 42 balls with the help of 4 fours. The score read 64-1 in 15.1 overs at his departure.

Virat Kohli joined in Shikhar Dhawan to get the things moving for Team India. Dhawan’s SIX off Adil Rashid helped India cross the 100 mark in 23.1 overs. The duo upped the ante for the team with some brisk stroke making. Dhawan reached his half century in 68 balls while Kohli reached his 61st half century in 50 balls. Kohli was dismissed shortly after reaching his half century for 56 runs off the bowling of Mark Wood.

Kohli and Dhawan put on a 105 run stand in 102 runs. The score read as 169-2 in 32.1 overs.

Shreyas Iyer didn’t last long as Mark Wood struck again to remove him for 6 runs. KL Rahul walked in at No.5.

Dhawan got agonizingly close to a century but lost his wicket to Ben Stokes at 98. India were in a bit of a bother at 197-4 in 38.1 overs. Stokes struck again removing Hardik Pandya at 205-5 in 40.3 overs and pushed India in to sort of a dumps situation.

Krunal Pandya Record Knock:

The stage was now set for the debutant Krunal Pandya who along with KL Rahul played confident cricketing shots to push England on to the back foot. The duo put on a partnership of 112 runs in 61 balls with both the batsmen remaining unbeaten till the end of Indian innings.

KL Rahul scored 62* in 43 balls while Krunal Pandya scored 58* in 31 balls. India put a formidable total of 317-5 in 50 overs.

Krunal Pandya reached his half century in 26 balls which is now the fastest half century by any debutant in ODI Cricket!

England’s Bairstorm:

Chasing 318 to win – England were off to a stunning start. The duo of Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy screamed the team to 50 mark in 6.1 overs and 100 mark in 11.3 overs.

Debutants Prasidh Krishna was hit for 22 runs in his 3rd over by Bairstow while Krunal Pandya was welcomed with a 16 run over by Jason Roy. Bairstow reached his half century in 40 balls.

The England opening duo put on a partnership of 135 runs in 89 balls before debutant Prasidh Krishna got rid of Jason Roy for 46 in 35 balls.

Prasidh got rid of Ben Stokes in his very next over as England were now 137-2 in 17 overs – still in commanding position.

England reached the 150 mark in 19.2 overs with a six from captain Eoin Morgan off Kuldeep Yadav. At 20 overs mark England were 157-2 requiring 161 runs to win in 30 overs with 8 wickets in hand.

Shardul Thakur got the price wicket of Jonny Bairstow for 94 in 66 balls. Thakur removed Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler in his next over as England were now half the side down for 176 runs at half way stage of the match – still requiring 142 runs to win in 150 balls.

The duo of Moeen Ali and Sam Billings put on a 41 run partnership which got England closer to the target with the visitors needing 119 runs to win in the last 20 overs. England brought up their 200 in 30.2 overs as Moeen Ali took on Kuldeep for 13 runs in the 31st over of the match. The visitors now needed 106 runs to win in 114 balls.

Captain Kohli brought back Prasidh Krishna back in to the attack and the very first ball Sam Billings gifted a catch to Kohli in the covers. England were 216-6 in 32.1 overs.

Sam Curran who walked in next put on a 20 run partnership with Moeen Ali reducing the winning equation to 81 runs in 78 balls.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck in the 1st ball of the 38th over as Moeen Ali knicked a bouncy out swinging swinging delivery to wicket keeper KL Rahul.

England started losing regular wickets henceforth as Sam Curran became Krunal Pandya’s first ODI wicket in his final over. Krunal Pandya came back from 3-0-36-0 to 10-0-59-1 on his debut.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar got his 2nd wicket of the night in the form of Adil Rashid as England lost 9 wickets for 243 at the end of 40 overs.

Prasidh Krishna Record:

Debutant Prasidh Krishna got his 4th wicket in the form of Mark Wood to bundle out England for 251 runs as Team India secured a 66 run win in the 1st ODI. England lost their last 10 wickets for 116 runs. Prasidh’s 4-54 is now the best bowling figures by an Indian bowler on ODI debut. He is also the first Indian bowler to pick 4 wickets on ODI debut.
