England ODI squad announced – Archer and Root out

England ODI squad for the 3 match series against India was announced on 21 March, Sunday. The 14 member squad is led by Eoin Morgan and it didn’t feature the likes of Jofra Archer and Joe Root.

It is learnt that Jofra Archer has aggravated his elbow injury in the T20I series and will fly England to get it treated with out undergoing surgery. He will miss the start of IPL 2021 but will catch up once he is ready. The squad also didn’t feature Joe Root who has left home after the Test series against India.

England ODI squad v India

Eoin Morgan (C), Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Liam Livingstone, Matt Parkinson, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, Mark Wood.

Reserves: Dawid Malan, Chris Jordan, Jake Ball

The squad contains spin options in the form of Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Matt Parkinson and Liam Livingstone. Leg spinner Matt Parkinson made his ODI debut last year against South Africa in February.

The squad also has Ben Stokes who hasn’t played a ODI match since the ICC World Cup 2019 finals at Lord’s in which he won the Player of the Match Award.

Dawid Malan, Chris Jordan and Jake Ball who were a part of England T20I squad – will stay back in India for the ODI series as back up options.

India and England will feature in 3 match ODI series with all matches set to take place at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on March 23, 26 and 28.

England is ranked the No.1 ODI team in ICC rankings with 123 points while Team India is ranked No.2 with 117 points in the ICC Rankings points table. India can become the No.1 team if they clean sweep England in the ODI series 3-0.
