Dale Steyn apologizes after his comments on IPL
Proteas cricketer Dale Steyn tweeted an apology after backlash from fans and cricket enthusiasts following an online interview. While talking in an online interview to Cricket Pakistan, Steyn expressed his views on IPL – suggesting PSL and LPL has more value for him as the big price value takes prominence over cricket in the big buck Indian Premier League.
The Proteas pacer took to twitter and posted – “IPL has been nothing short of amazing in my career, as well as other players too. My words were never intended to be degrading, insulting, or comparing of any leagues. Social media and words out of context can often do that. My apologies if this has upset anyone.”
The apology came a day after his views were put online.
“I wanted to take a bit more time off. I found that playing in those other leagues was slightly more rewarding as a player. I think when you go to the IPL there are such big squads and so many big names and so much emphasis on the amount of money that the players earn that somewhere along the line the cricket kind of gets forgotten. When you come to the PSL or the LPL, there’s an importance on the cricket.” the Proteas pacer told Cricket Pakistan.
Steyn is currently playing for Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan Super League. The South African pacer who represented RCB in IPL 2020 released himself ahead of IPL retentions seeking some time off.
