Record Alert: West Indies chased down the highest target in Asia on Kyle Mayers Test Debut

West Indies were looking down and out when Kyle Mayers walked in to bat at 59/3 with his team chasing a target of 395. This was Kyle Mayers Test debut. The highest record chase in Asia at that stage was Sri Lanka’s 391-6 against Zimbabwe chasing 388 in July 2017 at Colombo. Watch the video below:

Mayers joined forces with Nkrumah Bonner (86) and put together a partnership of 216 runs for the fourth wicket. West Indies were 275-4 needing exactly 120 runs to win at the fall of Bonner. Jermaine Blackwood departed for 9 runs as Windies were 292-5. With just half the wickets in hand – West Indies still needed 103 runs to win on a Day 5 pitch at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.

Wicket keeper batsman Joshua Da Silva (playing just his 2nd Test) was the new man in and he played a very patient knock of 20 runs in 59 balls and put a partnership of exactly 100 runs with Kyle Mayers for the 6th wicket- Mayers brought up his 150 and 200 in the process.

Mayers constantly put pressure on Bangladesh bowlers with his controlled aggression. Bangladesh main paceman Mustafizur Rahman went for 71 runs in 13 overs. Mehidy Hasan who had a dream Test with a century and 4 wicket haul in the Test returned bowling figures of 35-3-113-4 in the second innings.

With just 3 more runs needed to win – Bangladesh picked the wickets of Joshua Da Silva and Kemar Roach – but Kyle Mayers saw the team home in the chase with an exceptional 210* on Test debut. His unbeaten 210 consisted of 20 Fours and 7 Sixes
