Indian Cricketers to play 100 Tests
Ishant Sharma became the 11th cricketer for Team India to have played 100 Tests. He is now the 2nd Indian pacer to achieve this feat after Kapil Dev.
Here is the list of all Indian cricketers who played 100 Tests:
11. ISHANT SHARMA – 100* Tests
The Indian pacer achieved the feat in Motera’s Sardar Patel stadium which hosted the Day-Night Test between India and England.
He has over 300 wickets to his name with a best of 7/74.
10. VIRENDER SEHWAG – 103 Tests
Virender Sehwag recorded 8503 runs in his career at an average of 49.34. The feature of his Test career was his strike rate of 82.23 which revolutionized the format. He also picked 40 Test wickets with one five wicket haul. (5/104 v Australia)
Sehwag scored 2 triple centuries including the highest individual score by an Indian – 319 v South Africa at Chennai. He recorded a total of 23 centuries and 32 half centuries.
9. HARBHAJAN SINGH – 103 Tests
Harbhajan Singh picked 417 wickets in his Test Career including 25 five wicket hauls. He has a career best bowling figures of 8/84 v Australia at Chennai in 2001 during the historic Test series under Sourav Ganguly. Harbhajan is the first ever Indian off-spinner to record 400 Test wickets.
The Punjab off-spinner has also scored 2 Test centuries – 115 v New Zealand at Ahmedabad and 111* v New Zealand and Hyderabad. He recorded both the centuries in 2 consecutive innings! He scored 2224 runs at an average of 18.22.
8. SOURAV GANGULY – 113 Tests
The former Indian captain scored 7217 runs (188 innings) at an average of 42.17. He stamped his mark on world scene when he scored a century on Test debut at Lord’s.
Ganguly scored 16 centuries and 35 half centuries. His career highest score of 239 came against Pakistan at Bengaluru in 2007.
India never lost a Test when he scored a century!
He also picked 32 Test wickets with a career best of 3/28.
7. DILIP VENGSARKAR – 116 Tests
Vengsarkar scored 6868 runs at an average of 42.13. He scored 17 centuries and 35 half centuries with a career highest of 166 v Sri Lanka at Cuttack in 1987.
6. SUNIL GAVASKAR – 125 Tests
One of the greatest batsmen of all time – Sunil Gavaskar was India’s first ever batting super star. He was the first batsman to record 10,000 Test runs. He was also the first ever batsman to score 30 Test centuries breaking the record barrier of 29 set up by Don Bradman.
Gavaskar scored 10,122 runs at an average of 51.12 with a career best score of 236*. He recorded 34 Test tons to his name along with 45 half centuries.
5. KAPIL DEV – 131 Tests
Kapil Dev is one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game. He scored 5248 runs (31.05 Avg) and picked 434 wickets (29.64 Avg) in his 131 Test career.
His scored 8 centuries and picked 5 wicket hauls on 23 occasions.
His career best bowling figures are 9/83 against West Indies at Ahmedabad in November 1983, the same year India won the Prudential Cup. His highest score in Test cricket came in the form of 163 runs in 165 balls against Sri Lanka at Kanpur in December 1986.
4. ANIL KUMBLE – 132 Tests
The legendary leg spinner from India is among the all time Top 3 highest wicket takers with 619 wickets with a best of 10-74. He was the first since Jim Laker to take all 10 wickets in an innings.
Anil Kumble is one of the greatest match winners for Team India in Test cricket.
Kumble recorded 35 five wicket hauls in his career. He also scored a Test century against England – 110* at The Oval in 2007.
3. VVS LAXMAN – 134 Tests
The stylish Hyderabadi batsman scored 8781 runs at an average of 45.97 with a career highest of 281 coming in the epic Test match at Eden Gardens against Australia.
Laxman widely hailed for his finishing skills and batting skills with the tail-enders, registered 17 centuries and 56 half centuries to his name.
2. RAHUL DRAVID – 163 Tests
The great Wall of India aka Rahul Dravid scored 13,265 runs in Test cricket. He is still the batsman to face the most number of deliveries in Test history – 15285 balls.
Dravid scored 36 Test tons and 63 half centuries. His career highest of 270 came against Pakistan at Rawalpindi in 2004. He has a very impressive Test batting average of 52.63.
1. SACHIN TENDULKAR – 200 Tests
The only batsman to ever play 200 matches in Test history. The master blaster has 15,921 runs at an average of 53.78.
He scored 51 Test tons – the only batsman to register over 50 centuries in Test cricket. He also has 68 half centuries to his name.
Tendulkar scored centuries against all Test playing nations he played against. The most centuries he scored against an opponent is 11 – versus Australia!
He also picked 46 Test wickets with a best of 3/10.
Sachin Tendulkar made his Test debut at the age of 16 to become the youngest Test debutant of all time when India took on Pakistan at Karachi on November 15, 1989.
