Facts on Motera’s Sardar Patel Stadium – Now Narendra Modi Stadium

Motera’s Sardar Patel Stadium now called Narendra Modi Stadium situated in the outskirts of Ahmedabad is the largest cricket stadium in the world with a capacity of 1,10,000 seats. It is located inside Sardar Patel Sports Enclave. It beats the Melbourne Cricket Ground (1,00,024), Australia by 9976 seats.

Sardar Patel Stadium is also the world’s second largest (any sports) stadium – as the current record is held by Rungrado 1st of May Stadium at Pyongyang, North Korea with 1,50,000 seats.

Here are some of the cool facts about the world’s largest cricket stadium:

 Motera Stadium was initially constructed in 1982.

 The stadium was first renovated in 2006 but it was closed down and demolished for renovation in October 2015 with the aim to become the biggest stadium by capacity. It was rebuilt by February 2020.

 It cost approximately 800 crore INR to build the stadium.

 The stadium was the venue of the Namaste Trump event and hosted US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi on 24 February 2020.

 The stadium occupies 63 acres of land and has four entry points.

 The field size of the stadium is 180 yards x 150 yards.

 The Stadium has 4 Team dressing rooms to accommodate double headers in big events.

 It is facilitated with 6 indoor practice pitches and 3 outdoor practice fields.

 There are a total of 76 corporate boxes in the stadium with a capacity of 25 each. All of these corporate boxes are air-conditioned.

 The parking area can accommodate 3000 cars and 10,000 two-wheelers. This makes the parking space – the biggest capacity all across the world.

 The stadium is connected with the Ahmedabad Metro for ease of commute and avoiding being stuck in traffic jams.

 This is the first stadium (any sports) in India to be fitted with LED lights. A ring of lights surround the stadium area. The LED lighting will reduce strain on the eyes and avoid tanning.

 The stadium has a built-in clubhouse with 55 rooms. The clubhouse features both indoor & outdoor games, restaurants, an Olympic size swimming pool, gym as well as a 3D projector theatre!

 There is a food court at every stand in the huge stadium!

 India v England at Sardar Patel Stadium (Feb 2021) is the second Day-Night Test to be played in India.

 Sardar Patel Stadium is now rechristened as Narendra Modi Stadium!
