Ashok Dinda retires from all forms of cricket
Indian cricketer Ashok Dinda announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Tuesday, February 2.
The right arm pacer made his First Class debut for Bengal against Maharashtra in November 2005 – Dinda was wicket less in that match bowling 34 overs. He went on to play 116 first-class matches and picked 420 wickets at an average of just over 28.28
The right arm pacer recorded his best figures in first-class cricket of 8 for 123 against North Zone in the 2011-12 season. He also bagged 151 wickets in 98 matches in List A cricket while he has 151 scalps in 147 matches in the T20 format. Saurashtra all-rounder Prerak Mankad was his final scalp in all forms of cricket.
Dinda also went on to play 13 ODIs and nine T20Is for India, picking up 12 and 17 wickets respectively.
Ashok Dinda represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Pune Warriors, Rising Pune Supergiants, Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL cricket. He picked 68 wickets in 78 matches with a best of 4 for 18. His economy rate in IPL went up to 8.22 and he picked the wickets at an average of 30.45
Dinda, who represented Goa in domestic cricket this season, said in a presser: “Today I am retiring from all formats of cricket. There have been several people, including my parents, who have helped me throughout my career and I would like to thank them. A thank you to my on-field guardian, Sourav Ganguly. He has a lot of contributions in my career.
“I am today retiring from all formats of cricket. I have sent the mails to BCCI and GCA to this effect. There have been several people who have helped me throughout my career whom I would like to thank beginning with my parents. Then it’s Dada (Sourav Ganguly). It is because of him that I got to play for Bengal and when as skipper he stood at mid-off he would always guide and encourage me.”
