Joe Root provokes Chandimal to lose his wicket
In a test series where Joe Root’s England dominated the proceedings and clinched that one good session which was detrimental to Sri Lanka – there was a lot of chatter which also resulted in a few Lankan wickets falling, led from front by captain Root himself.
England’s captain led from front with the bat, ball and on the field with his exceptional field placements and banter from behind to provoke batsmen.
Earlier Sri Lanka was in trouble at 47/4 in the 2nd innings – as captain Dinesh Chandimal was steadying the ship in a counter attack as he hit 2 fours already – scoring 9* in 5 balls. Joe Root chirps from behind saying “Come on Chandi, Throw your wicket away…” and the very next ball the Sri Lankan captain plays a rash shot off Jack Leach and skies a catch in to the hands of James Anderson. Here is the footage:
Joe Root’s captaincy has been spot on as he set the fielders in the right spots to grab the Sri Lankan wickets. After Chandimal – it was the turn of Niroshan Dickwella to fall prey to Root’s tactics. After observing a bit of Dickwella’s batting – Joe Root says, “He’s (Dickwella) playing straight bat in front of square – bring a fielder in!”
This video shows what happened after that little chitter chat. Sri Lanka was at 66-5 at this stage.

England clinched the Test series 2-0. This was England’s 5th straight win against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka under Joe Root’s captaincy. England fans would be hoping Joe Root can inspire his troops in India as well – as they take on Team India in a 4 match Test series.
My dream team will feature Marcus Trescothick and Anil Kumble
