Abhishek Sharma & Virat Singh score maiden T20 centuries – Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy update
Punjab’s Abhishek Sharma and Jharkhand’s Virat Singh brought up their maiden T20 centuries on Thursday 14th January against their respective opponents in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament.
Abhishek Sharma and Virat Singh are both part of Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise in IPL cricket. Sharma opened the batting for Punjab against Railways – as he scored 107 runs in 62 balls with the help of 5 fours and 9 sixes. Punjab raced to 200-4 in 20 overs against their opponents as spinner Harpreet Brar‘s 4/22 and pacer Arshdeep Singh‘s 3-16 (both KXIP players) bowled out Railways for just 83 runs in 20 overs.

Meanwhile in a match between Jharkhand and Assam, Virat Singh walked in to bat at No.3 in just the 3rd ball of the Jharkhand’s innings as opener Anand Singh departed for a duck in 2 balls. Virat scored a unbeaten 103 runs in 53 balls – his maiden T20 century had 12 fours and 3 sixes. Jharkhand blasted 233 runs in 20 overs as Saurabh Tiwary also joined in the action with 57 runs in 33 balls.

Also in action was Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Abdul Samad – who walked in to bat one down for Jammu & Kashmir in a low chase against Uttar Pradesh registered a half century in winning cause. The 19 year old batsman remained unbeaten on 54 in 35 balls with the help of 2 fours and 4 sixes. Samad also managed to get his SRH team mate and UP captain Priyam Garg’s wicket.

Also in action was Karnataka opener Devdutt Padikkal who scored a unbeaten 99 in 67 balls with the help of 9 fours and 4 sixes against Tripura. Padikkal had a fine outing in his IPL debut for RCB last year. The 20 year old Karnataka batsman missed out on his 2nd T20 century by just 1 run – his highest T20 score is 122*. Karnataka escaped a scare by 10 runs after Tripura captain Manisankar Murasingh took things in to his hands along with Rajat Dey.
