5 Indian Cricketers in Isolation – Team India backs them!
In the latest developments over the so called ‘Bill Gate’ – 5 Indian cricketers who were put under isolation – Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Navdeep Saini, and Prithvi Shaw, will travel for the Sydney Test in a chartered flight together from Melbourne. The entire players, staff members tested negative in the Covid-19 tests conducted on Sunday.
The 5 cricketers were put in isolation after a fan posted a series of tweets about his interaction with them at a Melbourne restaurant. Cricket Australia and BCCI took up the task to investigate if the cricketers breached the protocol on New Year’s Day.
The Indian fan Navaldeep Singh posted a video showing the 5 cricketers across his table – followed by a series of tweets where he mentioned he paid the bill of 118.69$ for the cricketers. He also stated Pant hugged him but retracted the statement later.
5 Indian Cricketers backed by BCCI
“If you carefully read the CA statement, they never said that it’s a breach. They said that they are seeking to determine if it’s a breach.
“So there is no restriction on these five players travelling with the team to Sydney. The entire team is flying tomorrow afternoon,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Meanwhile the entire Indian unit underwent a Covid-19 test on Sunday and tested negative and are set for travel. The team was positive there is nothing to panic about as there is no need for the team to be in quarantine as the results came good.
It goes back to what we’ve said from the beginning. We want to follow the same rules as every Australian citizen in the country. So, if crowds weren’t allowed inside the ground, then it makes sense for them to ask us to quarantine inside the hotel,” a Team Insider said cricbuzz.
A team official was severe on the fan for shooting the video without permission and slated it as a publicity stint.
“Had the gentleman (the fan) in question not lied about hugging a player (Rishabh Pant) on social media, this mess wouldn’t have happened. The players had gone inside because it was drizzling.
“This guy, without permission, shot a video and then paid the bill which no one asked him to and after that for publicity put a screen grab of bill,” the official said.
