Tom Moody returns SRH as Director of Cricket
Former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody is set to return to the management team of the franchise as the Director of Cricket. Moody served the team as head coach since its establishment in 2013 till 2019. His seven years term came to an end when he was replaced by England’s World Cup winning coach Trevor Bayliss.
It is understood that Bayliss will continue as the head coach of SRH team with Moody in a role that extends beyond coaching, a model also adopted by the Royal Challengers Bangalore who have Mike Hesson as Director of Cricket operating with a coach in Simon Katich.
Tom Mood, a two time World Cup winning Australia team member – was announced to be appointed as the new Director of Cricket on Sunrisers Hyderabad twitter feed.
Thomas Masson Moody had a great run with SRH franchise – with the team lifting the trophy in 2016 and finishing runners-up in 2018. The team has entered playoffs five consecutive seasons under him.
Moody has a vast experience entering in to the managerial role – as he served in a similar role at Worcestershire in the early 2000s. Very recently, the former Aussie all rounder served as the Director of Cricket for Melbourne Renegades in Big Bash League. He was also the head coach of Sri Lankan national team which entered the finals of 2007 World Cup in West Indies. Hee was the head coach with Kings XI Punjab for 2 seasons before taking up the coaching stint with SRH.
Moody has a high emotional connection with the SRH fans – as they cheered a money ball team rise to glory in quick time. The franchise is known for selecting many firsts in tournament history. The first Kashmiri cricketer in IPL – The first Afghanistan cricketer in IPL etc.
The fans would be hoping the team to continue their consistent run in IPL cricket with Tom Moody back at a top role with the franchise.
