Former South Africa International came out of retirement to be a part of Hobart Hurricanes squad in the upcoming edition of Big Bash League. The player we are talking about is Johan Botha.

Johan Botha played his last T20 match on January 23, 2019 for the Hurricanes. Post retirement he took up coaching gig. He is currently the assistant coach of current PSL champions Karachi Kings. The off-spinner is now an Australian citizen and will represent Hobart Hurricanes as a local player.

Botha represented South Africa in 123 matches and picked 126 wickets. The bowling all-rounder also has 893 International runs to his name. He even led South Africa in 10 ODIs and 11 T20I matches.

The Proteas cricketer played T20 cricket all over the world. He represented teams like Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers, Hobart Hurricanes, Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel, Warriors et cetera to name a few.

Botha scored 1989 T20 runs (19.50 average) and picked 163 wickets (28.41 average). The Proteas all rounder played 216 T20 matches in his career. He is known to make crucial breath throughs for his team and contribute with the bat when needed.

Johan Botha got his Australian citizenship in the year 2016 and will contribute to the team’s cause as a local player. Former Proteas pacer Morne Morkel is also slated to represent Brisbane Heat as a local player.

I figured I’m as fit as I’ve ever been, and I feel I can still make a contribution to the team. I’ve missed playing but I didn’t really want to put it out there and say ‘can you pick me’ in case it didn’t work out, so we kept it quiet from when we first chatted about it at the Shield hub in Adelaide, and it slowly built up from there.
