Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of T20I series

Indian all rounder, the in-form Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the T20I series against Australia. Pacer Shardul Thakur has been added to the squad as replacement.

Jadeja suffered a hamstring injury followed by a hit on helmet in the form of Mitchell Starc’s short pitch delivery. As per sources the Indian all rounder expressed feeling dizzy once he reached the dressing room. Yuzvendra Chahal was brought in as a concussion substitute who ended up becoming the Man of the Match.

BCCI in a media release confirmed that the 31 year old all-rounder sustained a concussion in the closing stages of Indian innings – This was established after a clinical assessment during the innings break by the BCCI medical team.

India is slated to play 2 T20Is on December 6th and 8th at Sydney. The services of the spinning all-rounder will be deeply missed as he had significant contributions in both the matches India won in the tour.

Earlier Australia coach Justin Langer expressed displeasure at match referee David Boon for allowing India to have a concussion substitute during the 2nd innings of the match. The controversy surrounded around the ‘like for like’ replacement clause surrounding the substitute rule. Meanwhile captain Aaron Finch said he can’t be challenging a medical opinion as it was the doctor’s call to rule out Jadeja with concussion.

One is an all-rounder and a gun fielder and the other one is an out and out bowler who bats 11. It’s nothing to do with his hammy. I guess I’d like to look into that as a like-for-like decision so to speak because we’ve already seen one half of how Jadeja can be, how well he can bat. There’s no doubt he got hit on the head, he got hit on the helmet and then professionals made a decision from there. I do try and see the best in everyone.
